Youths
The question is often asked, who is a youth? At times men of 50 still want themselves to be categorized as youth. If men of 50 are youths, then when will they be elders? However, it doesn’t matter whether you call yourself a youth or an elder, what matters is that you get blessed by this article. You know, for a male approaching 20years, his thoughts begins to range on what kind of job he would want to secure on graduation, but if he is not yet in school(higher institution of learning), he would be thinking of entering school. The young man hopes that he will marry someday, so he starts dreaming of the kind of wife he would love to have and the type of house he will like to live in. He will also think of the number of children he will like to bear. These things apply to females also, except that they think of fewer responsibilities, believing that any additional responsibility will be handled by their husbands.
The bible makes us understand that the youths are strong, and those that are saved have overcome the evil one. So, we start with the fact that youths are strong; and if they are strong it means that they can do the ordinary things expected of any human being. Then, our Lord Jesus said, ‘to him who believes nothing shall be impossible’. The first lesson we will want to draw here is that, as a young man who is strong you should erase impossibility from your dictionary. Never believe that it is impossible to achieve your life goal. A song says, ‘it is not over until it is over’, and Paul says, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. For further emphasis, there is hardly anything that God has made available for us in life that is impossible to achieve.
The undergraduate may have heard of people graduating with first class, and he may say to himself, such is a no go area. But the question we should ask ourselves is that, those people that make first class, what do they have that we don’t have? They have brains to think, we have brains as well; they have eyes, we have eyes too; they have the ability to read and assimilate, we also have that ability.
Check out the world’s best football players each year, they normally decide within themselves that they have the capability of becoming the best and they go for it. Who said you cannot be another Zenidine Zidane or another Ronaldo or another Okocha, and even better than them. Bill Gate might not have been the best in school, but he knew that there was a potential in him; and he dropped out of school to pursue his dreams. That same potential is in every man. It may not be a potential to be a writer or a footballer, but there is something you can do.
God called Moses for the first time at mount Horeb and he asked him ‘what is that in thine hand’ Exodus 4:2. There is always something in our hands that can be a tool unto greatness. If I have the flare in assembling things, why don’t I go and find out an assembling firm and see how I can be useful. If I am in love with reading my bible everyday, what stops me from seeing the possibility of becoming a bible study teacher? If I love playing football, what stops me from joining local clubs to display my skills? If you find it difficult to know what you can do best then go to God, and he will turn that seemingly insignificant thing that you have into a mighty weapon of victory for you, Exodus 4:20. That ordinary shepherd’s rod that Moses was carrying became the rod of God through which God did mighty miracles in Egypt.
The second item here is that you have the ability to accomplish that dream because you are strong and well able to work towards it. Paul Wolfowitze of World Bank or Professor Charles Soludo of Nigerian Central Bank don’t have two heads. They studied to become what they are today? The bible says, study to show yourself approved, a workman that needed not to be ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth. Though the scripture was referring to you studying your bible, yet it applies to all spheres of life. Tiger Woods wouldn’t be the world’s best golf player if he did not study the game relentlessly. Whether you call it study or training, they all refer to the same subject.
You study theoretically and you train practically. Mike Tyson trained to be the best boxer in the years past. Ronaldino trained to be the best footballer; Condoleeza Rice studied to get to her elevated position of Secretary of State. Dangote studied to become a business tycoon. All these ones disciplined themselves and studied to be who they have always wanted to become in life. We are no different from them; therefore let us also study to be what we desire to be in life.
Finally, it is very important for us to note that God has given us all these abilities in order for us to serve him. So, wherever you find yourself or whatever you find yourself doing, you must advance the kingdom of God with it.
The third item which is that you have overcome the evil one can only be achieved if you are born again, therefore if you are not born again, there is a great urgency for you to be born again not just because of its benefit in this life but also in the life to come.

Great! As important for the now as ever has been through the years. For year after year the youth remain the youth. We can do all things by His strength which works in us (Phil. 4:13). That strength comes from the seeking the joy of the Lord. Such is what a song writer refers when in “… the Joy of the Lord is (shall become) our strength”. Its all about being youth; being strong, through the working of His strength to overcome the evil one, fulfill our life’s goals/objectives and return successful in all endeavour. Jesus is the answer for the youth today.
